Current Building/Technology Statuses

Jr. Sr. High School

  • Network – The building’s network is about 80% complete. Most classrooms have their network reconnected and wireless access points installed (Jr High wing, Art / English Hall, Science / Math Hall). Rooms below/around the main office side of the building are to be connected, estimated during the week of August 23.
  • Wireless – Wireless is available throughout the building, using the network ‘HPS-Guest’ with any device (including personal). The HPS device network will be available soon.

Please note wireless is not guaranteed to be up/functional and may have intermittent downtime for the remainder of the summer.
  • Printers – Printers (local/usb – directly connected to computers can be used). Networked printers, including copy machines, will be connected during the last week of the summer.
  • Copy Machines – We are waiting for our new copy machines to arrive, estimated the week of August 23. You can use the old copiers for making copies only (no scanning or printing) until the new ones arrive.
  • Door/Badges – The Door/badge system is to be connected the week of August 23, your original badges will function, no one is receiving new badges (unless they themselves are new and never had one).
  • Computers/Classroom Technology – Computers in the majority of the building are connected and operational. All desktops have been or will be re-imaged with a fresh install of Windows.
If your room is not plugged in, DO NOT PLUG IT IN OR ATTEMPT TO USE YOUR COMPUTER.
If your room is already plugged in, you can use your desktop.

Please note we have not done our final walkthrough yet, there may be items to do in your room such as connect/test the projector or smartboard, install software, install printers, etc. Do not submit a helpdesk ticket for anything such as these until school starts as we will be addressing all of these during our final walkthroughs.
  • Phones – Phones in the majority of the building are connected and operational. All [classroom] phones will have their voicemail passwords reset to 1234 prior to school starting due to moves and new staffing. Phone caller IDs for classrooms will also now be ROOM NUMBERS instead of users.
  • Student 1:1 Devices – Students will be receiving their 1:1 Chromebook on the first day of school.

New Items & Changes

Wireless

  • We have significantly upgraded the wireless throughout the entire school district. EVERY room now has a wireless access point (WAP) provided a dedicated radio network for that room. This will allow high density coverage to withstand (theoretically) any wireless need in any room in the district.

There will be [2] wireless networks in the district:
  • ‘HPSE’ which HPS devices will automatically connect to, it is designed for only HPS devices and cannot be connected to with any other type of device.”
  • ‘HPS-Guest’ which any type of device, including personal, can connect to.

This shouldn’t be used by HPS devices as if you connect to it on a HPS device you will have more strict filtering, slower network speeds, and less access on the network such as not being able to access printers.

This wireless network will prompt you to login upon connecting:
    • STAFF & STUDENTS will login using your HPS Google account.
    • This network can also be used by visitors easily, they simply choose “Register as a Guest”, enter the staff sponsoring their visitor-ship and that staff member will receive an email to confirm and authenticate them.

Phones

All [classroom] phones will have their voicemail passwords reset to 1234 prior to school starting due to moves and new staffing. Phone caller IDs for classrooms will also now be ROOM NUMBERS instead of first and last names.

Teacher desktop (chromebook) conversion and docking station model

  • About 25 classrooms will start off the year with a new technology model for their teacher station. Instead of the past / traditional teacher desk with a desktop, these classrooms will not have a traditional Windows desktop.

In these rooms the teacher desk will have a new monitor that acts as a hub with a single cable to connect to a Chromebook. They will also receive a dedicated teacher Chromebook that can be used wirelessly OR docked at their teacher desk. The docking monitor hub when connected to the chromebook:
    • Charges the chromebook
    • Makes the monitor the same (duplicated) OR extended monitor of the chromebook (single replicated monitor or two side by side monitors for more usability)
    • Provides the chromebook hard-wired ethernet for faster speeds
    • Connects the chromebook to any usb device connected to the monitor/hub such as a document camera, printer, etc.
    • Connects the chromebook to the dedicated wired keyboard and mouse, just as a traditional desktop has

  • ALL classrooms will be moving to this model for next school year. We will be continuing to convert classrooms throughout the school year as budget allows and will finalize the conversion for all remaining classrooms during the summer of 2022. All teachers that have one of these Chromebooks CAN use it at home.

AESOP / Absence System

  • Please note, AESOP is no longer used by the school district. We are moving staff absence data to ASPEN. All staff will be able to see your absence balances/accruals (sick, personal, vacation) directly in Aspen, self-service, as well as submit absence requests.
  • This will be available for the start of the school year.
  • If you need to submit an absence prior to the school year starting, please temporarily EMAIL your principal and/or building office for approval.
