Cleaning / Sanitizing Devices & Peripherals

Please see each section type to find your device type in order to verify which cleaning method is applicable.

Apple iPads

Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of the ipad, including the screen.

  • Do not press hard or scrub as it will remove the protective oleophobic coating on the screen.
  • Completely turn off the device and disconnect any charging cables prior to cleaning.
  • Avoid getting any liquid in/around the holes for charging, speaker, microphone.

Peripherals (Keyboards, Mice, etc.)

You can use the following on keyboards and mice. Fully unplug the device prior to cleaning and ensure it is dry before plugging back in.

  • 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe
  • Any brand disinfecting wipe
  • Mildly damp cloth with soap or Hydrogen Peroxide cleaning solution

Laptops / Chromebooks

You can use the following on the outside/shell, keyboard, and trackpad of a laptop/chromebook.
Fully unplug the device and ensure it is OFF prior to cleaning and ensure it is dry before plugging back in or turning it on.

  • 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe
  • Any brand disinfecting wipe
  • Mildly damp cloth with alcohol/water mix or Hydrogen Peroxide cleaning solution

You can use the following on the screen of a laptop/chromebook.
Fully unplug the device and ensure it is OFF prior to cleaning and ensure it is dry before plugging back in or turning it on.
Do not press hard or scrub the screen.

  • 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe

Smartboard (Whiteboard / Projector, type only)

Don’t spray cleaner directly onto the interactive whiteboard’s surface. Instead, spray or apply a light amount of cleaner on a cloth and then gently wipe the interactive surface.
Unplug the smartboard fully before cleaning (look for a USB cable on the bottom right of the board, its LED indicator light will go from green to unlit when unplugged)

You can use the following on a smartboard screen:

  • Alcohol-free household glass cleaner such as Windex, to clean the writing surface
  • For sanitizing you can use only a bleach based product within the following guidelines:
    • 4 tsp. of bleach per quart of distilled water
    • 1/3 cup bleach per gallon of distilled water
    • 20ml bleach per 980ml distilled water
    • 80ml bleach per 3.92L distilled water
    • Mildly damp cloth with a dish soap mixture

Smartboard (Interactive Flat Panel (TV)) – 6065, MX Series

Do not rub the screen with dense or rough material.
Do not apply pressure to the screen. Do not use cleaning solutions or glass cleaners on the screen, because they can deteriorate or discolor

the screen.

Ensure the smartboard is completely off and unplugged from the wall prior to cleaning.
You can use the following on a flat panel smartboard screen:

  • Mildly damp cloth with a dish soap mixture
