Care & Maintenance

Cleaning a 1:1 Device

Laptops / Chromebooks

You can use the following on the outside/shell, keyboard, and trackpad of a laptop/chromebook.
Fully unplug the device and ensure it is OFF prior to cleaning and ensure it is dry before plugging back in or turning it on.

  • 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe
  • Any brand disinfecting wipe
  • Mildly damp cloth with alcohol/water mix or Hydrogen Peroxide cleaning solution

You can use the following on the screen of a laptop/chromebook.
Fully unplug the device and ensure it is OFF prior to cleaning and ensure it is dry before plugging back in or turning it on.
Do not press hard or scrub the screen.

  • 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe
  • Soft non-abrasive cloth such as a microfiber cloth

Apple iPads

Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of the ipad, including the screen.

  • Do not press hard or scrub as it will remove the protective oleophobic coating on the screen.
  • Completely turn off the device and disconnect any charging cables prior to cleaning.
  • Avoid getting any liquid in/around the holes for charging, speaker, microphone.

General Care

  • Never place any heavy object on top of the device.
  • Do not use the device in the presence of food or liquids.
  • Take caution when plugging the charging cable and accessories in to ensure the charging port, aux audio port and USB ports do not become damaged, they cannot be replaced.

Moving a 1:1 Device

  • Always close the device completely before carrying or transporting it, never walk around with it open.
  • When transporting the device in your backpack ensure nothing heavy will press against the device.  If possible put the device in a cushioned area of your backpack, many backpacks offer a “laptop slot”. 
  • Ensure your charger is fully unplugged before moving.

Using a 1:1 Device

  • Always place the 1:1 device on a flat surface, such as a desk or table. Using it on your lap can block airflow and overheat the device as well as be unstable, causing it to fall to the ground and become damaged.
  • Do not share your 1:1 device with anyone.
  • Always charge the 1:1 device the night before bringing it into school it is expected to be fully charged for classes.
